Saving Siren (Harlots & Heroes)

By MartinVanners
I don't think I have ever spent so much time on an image. And I don't think I have ever had so much fun creating one. This image consists of 62 Photoshop (adjusment) layers, and took 37 hours to make. "Why?", you ask? "Because I loved every minute I spent on it".

The background was shot by a good friend, Wijnand from Burbex Photography, using a Nikon D810, which gave me lots and lots of data to work with. When he posted it online, in my head I immediately saw a medieval scene taking place at the location. I shot both knights in a dressing room of a local gym, using 3 strobes to mimic the ambient light from the background. Same for the human part of the mermaid. To create the tail, I went to a fish market and bought a complete fish and a salmon's tail. Add some (well, a lot actually) Photoshop-magic and "voila!": scene completed :^D

Oh yes, now this is ticking all my boxes Grin Love the write-up too, especially how you went about creating both the lighting on the knights and the mermaid's tail ... creative in the extreme.

I must say, I'm very glad you joined this site Wink Not only are your images amazing pieces in their own right, by studying them they can actually teach a heck of a lot to people like me who want to pursue this route ... thank you! Smile
Thanks so much! Tanya, especially for you (change quality of the video to "high" or "full HD" if you can):
