So do I, there isn't enough contrast for the mono version, & you almost lose the grasses in the foreground.
As an abstract, I'm not sure it works, as it's difficult to see what you had in mind.
As a straight arty or record shot, the angle is really too high. If you'd come down off the bridge, assuming the swans hadn't moved on by then, you'd have got a better shot. You'd be closer to the subject, & the grasses look like they'd be nice and tall, to make good foreground interest.
The water makes for a really nice texture though. Try a contrast boost, & see what happens. You can push it further with the mono version, & it may make that one the better of the 2.
