Basilica Cistern

By Maxtours
We had a wonderful trip to Istanbul a couple of years ago. This Basilica was fascinating, cool and dark with the columns lit up and reflected in the water. There were big carp type fish swimming around - the only way I could get a shot was to lie on the floor as it said tripods weren't allowed! I hadn't ever taken anything quite like this before in such low light so just let the automatic settings help me out with a bit of trial and error. I personally like it because it's unusual and reproduced as I remember it, but grateful for any feedback/improvement advice. Thanks for looking!

This is a lovely image Deb, the reflections are great and the columns seem pin sharp. The comp is good, and it seems to go on forever. Love it!

Thanks for all the positive comments, much appreciated. Although I've been taking photos for years I've never really gone beyond composition and using the auto scene settings - I've got a new camera now and I'm ready to learn how to get successful captures without the aid of a safety net so to speak! This site is great inspiration!

That is really beautiful, the sharpness is great and the reflections amazing. I like the low light and the warm orange lights peaking out from the shadows and lighting everything just enough. Excellent.
