Steps to the sun

By bayliner185
I visited the Giants Causeway at dawn a few days ago to find it completely shrouded in sea mist. I was about to leave when a glimmer of light pierced through the clouds. My intent was to capture a view out towards the Atlantic but the sea mist put paid to that. Instead I turned the camera back inland and took 5 separate exposures 1 stop apart which were combined to make this shot. I used a .6 Lee soft Grad to hold the brighter areas of the sky.

Maybe over-processed for some tastes, but I think it works well with the subject matter here. Gives the shot a certain mystical quality.

Cheers folks, I am aware that the processing has been pushed towards the limits of what is considered by many to be OTT. However in this case it has created a moody, almost surreal effect which is exactly what I was after.

Well done Jim. When this place is not covered in bad weather I'm sure it can very rewarding.
