Nice shot of a horrible beast.
Nothing wrong with auto modes for a lot of situations - it allows you to concentrate on the composition.

A little tip for future reference...try to not have things blocking your subject as the post does here a little, a move to the right would have helped and would also given you more of the guys face too. That said its an interesting and well caught subject.

Nice shot Graham, I've seen this done here with Gators at Gatorland and Jungle adventures. Gators everywhere running wild but don't think I'd give it a go off a boat dock!! bad enough when they grab your float or spinner when fishing.
