Arthur & Martha

By Merbert
Friends of ours have a farm near Peachester ( Sunshine coast ).This couple of Tawny Frogmouth took residence there a few years ago.

Annie & Ron named them "Arthur & Martha" and I have been lucky enough to meet them over the Easter break.

With their nocturnal habit and owl-like appearance, Tawny Frogmouths are often confused with owls, but are actually more closely related to the nightjars.

Their feet are weak however, and lack the curved talons of owls.

Tawny Frogmouth pairs stay together until one of the pair dies. They breed from August to December.

Strange looking birds. Your write up on them is quite interesting and such a great shot. They look so happy with each other.
