Star - R.I.P.

By Metalhead
Rest In Peace – Star - July 1998 to 15th May 2008

I’ve been a member of EPZ for close to a year now but haven’t got round to posting any images as yet, so I wanted my first portfolio image to be a dedication to Star, one of our two dogs, who sadly we lost in May this year (2008) to cancer. Taken on Christmas Day last year, this picture can not portray how wonderful Star was as a pet. My wife had Star from a few weeks old and Spirit, our other dog, from about 1 year old, and to suddenly be without either one of them was heart breaking. I have been fortunate to have had Star in my life for the last 4 years, I just wish it could’ve been at least 4 more… She was the softest, kindest dog anyone could wish for and she loved being by your side and getting all the attention. Every rustle of a crisp packet or a biscuit wrapper and she’d be there!

Last January (2007) she became ill and went completely off food, which for Star was a sure sign of something being wrong, and the vet found a lump in her intestinal area. She went into surgery that week and he removed a tumour. She bounced back with twice the energy she’d ever had and thankfully we have had that extra year and a half with her company. This time round, the cancer returned but none of the symptoms were the same. She remained her usual lively self up until the end, but as the vet operated on her he could see straight away the cancer had got hold of many of her organs and he gave her only weeks to live. With his experience and advice we didn’t want to see her suffer and so she was never revived from surgery. One of the hardest decisions we’ve had to make, yet probably the kindest as she didn’t have to go through any suffering. It was made all the more difficult by the fact she looked so healthy on the outside.

She will always be missed, and never forgotten…

Thanks everybody for the kind words and sentiment. Very much appreciated and I know Star would've loved the attention! Sorry if I made anyone cry... wasn't easy to write those words as it brought things back. But as many of you have said, we have the photos and the happy memories.

There'll be more photos of Star coming soon, as well as Spirit, and other random stuff...

Many thanks again,

Thanks for the comment Michelle. Yeah we do get attached to our dogs. I was never a "pet" person until I met my wife. They came as a package: one wife, two dogs. Things aren't the same without Star around... she was such a character! We will probably get a new puppy from a rescue centre before the end of the year when we have more time to spend with him or her. I'll go mad with the photos!

Hope you get many more happy years with Coco!
