nice picture, looking at the camera used its done a fair job with these lighting conditions (youv almost shot into the sun) hence the burn out to sky top right.Mod i'v cropped a little from top and right to balance the photograph and try to get your subject a little bigger in frame. adjusted contrast and boosted saturation a little.
hope this is helpful for you.

It's a good try, but with a compact you are a bit limited on this type of thing and whilst the composition and timing are spot on, the butterfly is far from sharp, and it does need to be.

Having said that - achieving such a result is VERY VERY difficult.

I had been sitting at my living room window, camera on the sill and just took lots of pics as the bush was alive with butterflies.

Mhairi,

That's because it's nickname is the Butterfly Bush, real name is Buddleia. Top marks for getting down low and having a go at a different angle. As Paulbroad has said, you've done great with the equipment you had at hand, well done.

Thanks DaVes for your comment, and for telling me the name of the plant it is a lovely plant it actualy belongs to neighbour but has come through fence into my garden so it was a pleasure taking the photo's as I spent a good hour just snaping the butterflies
