I've put this on before but taken it straight back off as I wasn't happy with it.
It was taken with the on camera flash, I'd like to take it again with a light and tripod so as to get greater DOF.

Well the dof is there maybe you want to use softer lighting to get the effect you are looking for?

Yes the dof is there, well spotted. But where is the feather duster.
