Waternish Head, Skye.

By Mike43
Waternish Head on the Isle of Skye, I waited all week for a good old storm to blow up to give the scene a more dramatic look, so although I like the shot I still feel it is missing that storm??

Comments as usual much appreciated

Maybe not quite as moody as you would have liked but the sky combined with the composition make a very good image

There is nothing missing here for me. I love the contrast between dark and light.

I think the problem is the slab of dark grey immediately above the headland - ideally you would have more detail in the sky to give that 'ominous' look. I have tried playing with it in LR but the jpeg does not have enough details in it - maybe the raw file you can pull out a bit more contrast to add detail to the clouds?
But the contrast between the light ion the foreground and the sky in the distance is effective.

An image of beautiful contrasts, captured from a great point of view. Love the light.

It's a great shot, and you have kept a moody sky but at the expensive of overcast foreground. In my mod, I brightened the image, but then put on a grad, using a 50% grey layer in Photoshop, set to overlay, and a black to transparent gradient with about 40% opacity. I think this preserved the sky, but may have made the foreground a bit garish!

Theres a load of drama that was there at the time that didnt translate through the photo.

I have uploaded a mod to try to improve it, - take a look and tell me if it makes a difference to you, - let me know.

I knew this was yours before looking at the name. Pretty good as is usually the case. Just wonder f the very dark area on the cliffs in the middle is a little too dark. Might just lighten that a touch.

Hi Willie.
Thanks for the mod, have tried to insert additional contrast similar to your mod but never seem to have got it right, problem is the image I have for the shot is one of those stormy coastal photos and anything less becomes a nice photo BUT. So looks like I will have to take the wife up to Skye for another holiday.
Regards.
Mike.
