Power on the moors

By MikeH
For me one of the scariest places in Yorkshire. High up on the moors on a peat bog is Ovenden windfarm. Last year when I did these there was only blue skies,OK, but I much prefer these menacing dark skies from my latest visit. The sun managed to filter through for a few minutes to highlight the turbines .The wind was so strong I had to weight the tripod down with my bag.

Cool very forboding shot, love the sun on the masts, takes the image beyond just a shot of wind turbines. Great sky too.

Excellent pic. Really like the blades against the darkened sky. I've tried a few of these myself and it's amazing how many shots you have to take to find a good 'blade position'. Good choice of shutter speed.

Well done.

dark always works best up there - often get a sunset from the west and a black backdrop up north.

this is a cracker - contrast you've achieved is amazing

It's the moody sky and the contrast with the windmills which really makes this an outstanding shot.

Excellent Mike, the contrasting values are as good as one could achieve between the dark sky and the white structures and couple them up with your exposure detailing the turbine movement and you have a scene which has cracking impact.

Clearly I'm going to like the format but as it goes, it suits the image very much. I like what you've done with the framing. Bringing it right on to the tallest turbine gives the image a sense of immediacy. An excellent result. Nick.

Can almost hear the roar of the wind in this shot Mike. The shutterspeed is just right, so as not to blur the blades too much, but yet still give the impression of speed.

Quality. Congrats.

Absolute PERFECT choice of shutter-speed, beautiful light too and a cracking composition. It's probably my favourite location and and I've been there many times, but I haven't bagged one as good as this. This is the shot I've been after for month's, so if I do get it, I'll apologies now for copying LOL.
