hi guys ,got away to tenby the weekend ,this really is one of my all time favourite places to be,The Earliest reference to a settlement at tenby is in Etmic-Dinbych,a poem probably of ninth century date, preserved in the fourteenth century book of taliesin,at this point the settlements was likely a hill fort. The mercantile nature of the settlement possibly developed under hiberno-Nors influence, the town grew as a sea port around the now ruined tenby castle, the town walls were built by william de valence,1st earl of pembroke in the 13th century in late medieval times, tenbys importance grew as a sheltered seaport, and in 15/66 portugeues seamen landed the first oranges to be brought to wales at tenby harbour.
In the georgian and victorian eras, tenby was renowned as a health resort and centre for botanica and geological study with many of the towns features being constructed to provide areas for health seaside walks, due to the walkways being built to accommodate vitorian nannies pushing prams, many of the beaches still retain good disabled acces, this is just one of a few i will be uploading fo my stay ,thanks for looking ,and thanks for the C/Cs on my last upload ,regards
Mike ,all this info can be found on the net ,but just to save you the trouble,LARGE IS WORTH A LOOK IF YOU HAVE TIME
