I like the way you've managed to pull a good shot out of unpromising weather conditions. Great comp, too, with the foreground rock echoing the shape of the tree. Nice work, Miles!

Flawless composition and a remarkable achievement in celebrating the lack of light rather than suffering from it. Outstanding.

The tree looks a bit dark for me, but I love the feeling of wilderness that this shot gives. Youve captured the essence of Dartmoor superbly with this great composition.

There are far too many elements to mention in one little comment. The comp is perfect with that little tree in the background and the rock in front. There si something about the symmetry with the main tree and the rock too that adds an extra dimension. Nice dramatic sky too.

Hi Meg, the moodyness comes from the darkened sky being filtered. Camera was in full manual mode, metering was on the ground in the foreground using center weighted metering, then the 0.6 (2 stop) ND hard grad was added running along the edge of the horizon and allowed to underexpose the sky a little.

Hope that helps.

Thank you all for your kind comments

Thank you Miles I am going to have to get some of those filter things!(and practice with the camera in manual!!) lol
Thanks again
