Inspiration 1

By Miles Herbert
Having climbed the hill in the dark, I sat down to wait for the light, and as it got lighter I could see the mist flowing through the gaps in the hills and rolling down into the valley. That was when you start to get that tingle of excitement, and you just KNOW that it is going to be one of those special days. (or is it sleep deprivation and caffeine deficiency kicking in?)

This is Corfe isn't it??
Just unbelievable - how do you control the warther??????

The defused light from the mist has given a 'water color' like effect.

this is a photo that I will remember for a log time to come. (and one you should be able to make some money from I suspect)

Thank you for all the comments, makes climbing that hill in the dark, soaked by dew, and slipping on the loose gravel on the path all worthwhile.

As I said, this is one of a set of 3, being the one taken earliest.

Yes, it's Corfe Castle.

Thanks for all the comments.

Yes Steve, I have been there quite often waiting for the mist to clear enough for a decent shot, this is the first day in 3 years where it all came together... By the way, if you hunt around in the grass/gorse around where I was stood, on the corfe facing side of the hill, there are some very photogenic Wasp Spidersliving there which make a useful back up shot if all else goes pear shaped.

There are no words to describe this Miles. I am in total awe of your work. I too am very jealous, but also very honoured to be allowed to view this.

As I am saving my pennies in order to purchase some Lee filters, am I safe in assuming they are as good as it gets? and worthy of all the praise Lee Frost and co. heap on them.

Miles Herbert 17 1.9k 4 United Kingdom
30 Sep 2004 5:52AM
Thanks for all the comments.

Yes, Lee filters are good, and they are expensive. However, to be perfectly honest, my Cokin and Hitech filters were pretty good to, just MUCH cheaper. As a general rough guide, I have found the Cokins to be fine down to my 28mm lens, which has a 62mm lens cap fitting. Below 28 I found that there was vignetting, which is why I bought the Lee filters, which I can use down to 18mm.
muzzeyman 16 293 United Kingdom
30 Sep 2004 9:12AM
Thanks for the info Miles. I mainly use Cokin A series filters, with good results, but as in your case and the likes of Joe Cornish & Lee Frost, the effects they create using the Lee system are just stunning.
Take care

I remember this shot from ages ago, but wasn't confident enough to comment back when I was a newby! Loved it then and loved it now, I really like the colours and the mist makes it so mysterious! Really well captured!

Never did click on it because it was an old shot when I first saw it. But this definitely made me get fog shots of my own.

One of the nicest Corfe Castle shots I've seen. The mist makes it.
