Storm Warning

By Miles Herbert
Low cloud fronts moving in on a brisk wind at sunset made for some pretty good light down at Poole Harbour one evening. 50 - 500 mm lens used at 500mm to flatten the perspective and bring in the layers of trees in the background. It was too windy for the tripod with such a big lens, so shot through the open car window with the lens wedged under passenger seat headrest!

Lee 0.9 ND grad, Lee 81B warm-up used.

Stunning image, the colours really work well together. One for the wall I think?

Jealous of the lens!

maybe it's my monitor but the sail looks as though it was added afterwards? There's a shadow to the right (when viewing)that i would have thought shouldn't be there-so very distracting and bizarre!

Excellent, Miles. I love the way you've composed this to create strips of complementary colours, punctuated by the small sail.

Would you know how a Lee 0.9 ND translates into, say, a Cokin ND? The bloke at Jessops said he had never heard of 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 filters! Why am I not surprised.

I think this is quite a stunning image personally. Its got such a warm and atmospheric feel to it. I really love the layers in the landscape and the lighting of the windsurfer that makes it stand out so well. Great work!

Thanks for all the comments...

The windsurfer does belong there, though I did play with the idea of cloning him out. The white line is the wake from a ferry which had just gone through. Connie, I can't see what shadow you mean, all I can think is that where I put a mask over the windsurfer before using Neat Image to retain it's sharpness, that I may have left some PP traces there...if I stare long enough at it I can see the patch of sea around the windsurfer which was masked off...my inattention to detail on that one. :-(
