Thistle

By Miles Herbert
Some sort of thistly plant growing in the car park, if anyone could tell me what it is called I would be grateful!

Nice shot of an Echinops. I've hacked mine down because they grew to over 6 foot high and dominated my little garden!

I think you are all wrong, and my wife (the botanist/horticulturalist says it is an Allium i.e onion family. Ornamental ones available at your garden centre. Echinops is much more thistle-like, unlike this with a ball-shaped inflorescence. Next time you see areal thistle look closer (and you do not have to go to Scotland to see them!)

I'm the culprit - but in my defence I will enter my own Echinops picture (out of focus and from my own garden, before chopping)- you will see a marked resemblance. Far be it for me to argue with an expert - but all my alliums are more purple than blue. Anyway, we can all agree that it is a jolly good photo. :}}

And what about this? Astonishing colours in a geometry of small flowers. Well done!

Having joined in a topic on the forum this led me to your portfolio so apologies for the late comment on this,I too think it's an allium as opposed to an Echinops but putting that aside the DOF and sharpness here are to be envied.
