  • Posted on: Samyang AF 50mm f/1.4 FE II Lens Review

    The specifications on page 4 (filter size 67mm - maximum magnification 0.15x - min focus 45cm - 9 elements in 8 groups - 585g) are those of version I, not version II (filter size 72mm - maximum magnification 0.16x - min focus 40cm - 11 elements in 8 groups - 420g).

    Hi there

Thank you for this review. What does "Closure focusing would be useful" mean?

It can't be a typo for 'closer focusing' since you praise the 0.40m minimum focusing distance: "Traditional 50mm lenses would focus down to around 0.45m, so there is a minor advantage with the new Samyang."

A poorly edited draft ("Highly Recommend").

Quote:It's a matter of availablility rather than choice, but the good news is that an A7R III suddenly became available, a bit late in the day but I've just completed another set of Imatest results and hopefully Josh can add those results in the near future.

Thank you for adding the Alpha 7R III MTF and CA charts.

Why did you choose the 24MP Sony Alpha 7 III for this review whilst you used the 42MP Sony Alpha 7R II for the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.4 G Master, hence making any comparison impossible?

  • Posted on: Meike Launch 85mm f/1.8 Lens For Sony E-Mount Full Frame Cameras

An additional piece of information from the Amazon listing, supported by the lack of aperture ring on the lens and confirmed by a picture that shows contacts on the lens flange: the Meike MK 85mm f/1.8 MF supports aperture control by the camera and EXIF data transmission.

  • Posted on: Samyang To Release 8 New Lenses This Spring

From left to right and according to the silhouettes:

    (1) = Samyang XP 10mm f/3.5 (manual focus, Canon EF mount, soon to be announced -a prototype was showcased at Photokina)
    (2) and (6) = Canon RF and Nikon Z versions of Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 EF/F/FE. Not necessarily AF though.
    (3) and (7) = Canon RF and Nikon Z versions of Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 FE. Not necessarily AF though.
    (4) = Sony E version of Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 EF
    (5) = Nikon F version of Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 EF
    (8) = some new lens in Sony E mount.

  • Posted on: KIPON Release Full-Frame Third-Party Lenses For Nikon Z & Canon EOS R

    Quote:(...)
I'm assuming these lenses are longer than they need be if they are just repackaged older lenses.

(...) i'd not heard of them before.

Not that longer since the HandeVision Iberit lenses were designed for short-registered mounts, the one having the longest flange focal distance being the Leica M mount (27.95mm vs 20mm for the Canon RF mount and 16mm for the Nikon F mount).

The Kipon brand is well known for their adapters.

These Kipon Elegant lenses are rebranded and re-mounted versions of the HandeVision IBERIT 24, 35, 50, 75 and 90mm f/2.4 lenses currently available in Fujifilm X, Leica L, Leica M and Sony E mounts.

HandeVision is (was?) a joint-venture between the German company IB/E optics GmbH and the Chinese company Shanghai Transvision Photographic Equipment Co., Ltd, better known under their Kipon trademark

  • Posted on: Pentax Lens Road-Maps Revealed

Nil novi sub sole: two of these roadmaps (those indicated "Update: February 2016") date back to CP+ and the third one is also a CP+ roadmap but updated in June when HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3ED PLM WR RE was announced.

  • Posted on: Pentax HD FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW Review

The squirrel picture was taken at a 230mm focal length, which is quite impressive for a 70-200mm lens Wink.

I presume it was taken with the other Pentax lens you reviewed simultaneously (HD Pentax-D FA 150-450 mm f/4,5-5,6 ED DC AW).

    Quote:Updated thanks

    Still there:

"Another point of interest is the fact this lens sports an image circle large enough to cover a full frame sensor and provides a focal length roughly equivalent to a 107-307mm range when used with Pentax APS-C DSLRs."

I presume you copied and paste the text from the Pentax-D FA★ 70-200 mm f/2,8 ED DC AW review.
