Yellowstone Mountain

By mlseawell
This was my first trip into Yellowstone National Park. I entered via west Yellowstone on a beautiful Friday morning. The drive from the cabin was about 30 minutes. I departed later than I wanted but it was unavoidable. The fact that I don't trust my GPS doesn't help although it was perfect on this day. And what did I see? Smoke and fire. The moment you entered the park the smell of burning wood was present. You could see the haze which I mistook for fog while approaching the part. But I was fortunate in that after 20 minutes drive into the park I was greeted with partly cloudy skies and no trace of the fires that have been burning in Yellowstone and the Tetons for the last month.

As for Yellowstone I honestly didn't know what to expect. Unlike the Tetons, Yellowstone never really captured my interest. Even in the 40's Ansel Adams didn't embrace the park not because of the scenery, which is staggering but because of the crowds! More on this later.

This moment was captured as I worked my way out of the park. I returned over the next couple of days with my wife and son and my go back alone in October. Yellowstone mountains.

It's always difficult when places become so popular that you can't see the views for tourists, Scotland in summer is not where I want to be sadly.

The colder weather will chase the tourists back home and locals will regain there favourite spots back again.
