Garden Sparrowhawk!!!

By Mobieus
Had the pleasure and suprise of seeing this Sparrowhawk in my garden this morning. My wife shouted to me to "come and have a look at this bird", i was rather stunned to see this beauty feeding on a sparrow on my decking. Her mate was waiting for more sparrows to land in a nearby apple tree of my neighbour. I managed to get some 20 odd shots through the kitchen window before they flew off. Not too bad a result seeing as it was through glass and all lol.

We live on the outskirts of a large city, and can only think that they must be nesting somewhere close by. Anyway, thanks for looking and as usual all constructive comments welcome.

well caught. We had one recently too. You were lucky to get them so close, or were you? Smile

Thanks for the comments folks Smile

Yes i was pleased with the results when considered it was through glass, I was amazed to get as many shots as I did when they were only about 30ft away.

Lets hope that they come back and see if they can get another meal from my garden.

It is funny to think that 30 years ago these birds were so rare that they were specially protected. Now they are very common and one passes through my garden quite often, and at least twice has taken a pigeon. I have never managed to get anything as good as this though, well caught.

Superb capture. I would not have realised it was taken through glass if you hadn't said so.

Lol, Rachel you can thank my good wife for that, she made me clean the windows just the day before...
