I had the pleasure of being asked by family friends to take the first formal portraits of this little sweetheart. What you can see on her face is a strawberry Naevus, these are quite common in premature babies, as indeed she was.

Mum came to me because of her anxiety of going to a professional photographer. The sad result I'm afraid of ignorant members of the public who have in the past took it upon themselves to make critical and distressing comments. :-(

Within 30 seconds of being with this little darling all i could see was the delightful personality and fabulous eyes of this little princess. I only hope that i have done her justice in my first formal attempts at a portrait.

C&C welcome, thanks for looking.

edit...the good news is that in over 80% of these cases of Naevus, they spontaneously disappear with little or no surgical intervention by the time they are 5-7yrs of age. Lets pray this is the case Smile.

This is a very difficult image to comment on - all the normal comments seem inadequate and placating. She IS gorgeous and she DOES have gorgeous eyes, you've managed to capture both beautifully.
I do hope both the parents and child cope with peoples ignorance. Stare right back at 'em kid, with pride and dignity!!! Smile

A lovely picture of a lovely child. I would think that any parent would be proud of the child and of the photograph. Smile Smile

( I feel sorry for any one who makes disparaging comments because they are too ignorant and have a very low inelegance to know any better)

What can I say that hasn't already been said. She is a lovely little girl and you have photographed her beautifully.
As an earlier comment said I hope all goes well for her in the future.

Thanks for all the positive feedback folks, both for the little lady and the quality of my attempts to take a nice picture of her. I too hope that we will see the naevus wither as she flourishes and continues to grow. At the moment the only people distressed by it are her family and friends, she like any other child is just bursting with fun and giggles and ignorant of any concerns.

You have portrayed her very well, and as with the others, I hope and pray she will be among those who require no treatment.

you have certainly captured a wonderful little expression in this shot a delightful portrait.

Its difficult to comprehend some peoples ignorance and it is so difficult as parents to hear people judge those you love on appearances and disabilities I hope they all find strength in each other to ignore these people.

My biggest cuddle and hope that her future is a happy one full of laughter and love x

It's beautiful! My baby girl also has a strawberry mark(haemangioma) on her arm. It has caused other's more anxiety than I. Fortunately it is starting to shrink very gradually, and as you say nearly all have gone by the time a child reaches the age of 7. I do hope this will apply to your beautiful subject, she is a little darling.

Well done on your portrait session. You have captured her beautifully in a lovely lighting and fantastic off camera gaze. Nice cropping just below limb joints. Thanks for photo info in addition to the lovely picture. - Martin
