The Rush...

By Mobieus
An image of a friend at Llanngranog doing what he loves...

This past week has been awful for weather in Wales, but it has been good for big waves. I braved the the weather and put the camera on my monopod and waded into the surf to catch this one.

I'm not terribly happy with the white water detail, it looks a bit lacking in contrast, would like to know how to get more detail there.

Comments and feedback much appreciated, and as usual thanks for taking the time to take a look.

I think this is an excellent shot and well worth getting your feet wet for. It portrays the power of the water very well and the exhilaration of it all.

For me the water is not really an issue but my mod tries to introduce more contrast - not sure it is an improvement though. What I did was to mask everything other than the water (rather quickly - I am sure you could do it much better), then darken the water using levels. I then applied a bit of increase in contrast. I don't think applying more contrast without the levels adjustment would work as you don't have much in the way of shadow detail for the contrast adjustment to work on. I also cropped a bit from the top to cut out as much of the flat water as possible.

Thanks for the prompt feedback Cath, i like your mod a lot...i will have to try that. I agree wet feet were worth it, i too like the impression of the raw power of the sea that day.
