Mumbles Lighthouse

By moe_101
I've been book-learning, listening to advice and generally fiddling about and this is the culmination of all that. Plus I researched my location, checked tide-times, weather forecasts etc. and really tried to think about this one. I think I may have taken a small step forward.

I would really appreciate some honest thoughts on this.

I think it's stunning! I love how the slower shutter speed has blurred the water slightly, really compliments the softness in the colours. The rocks are really sharp, compositions good, you've obviously worked hard on this Smile

Moe,

You have taken a big step forward. Congratulations on this one. It's very nice indeed. The composition is excellent as is your exposure. The last light on the rocks has brought out some lovely detail too.

Now, here's how you cold improve it. I've just had a play in PS and will email you my adjusted image. Now that you have sussed out levels, you can go on to the next stage of processing, and that's adjusting different parts of the image so that you can control exposure on different parts. This image is good, but can still be improved. One could darken the sky slightly (as I have done) and then use a layer mask to bring back the detail in the foreground. The juxtaposition of the lighter foreground and darker sky will enhance the foreground even more.

But, this is a good image, and now you will start to move forward. I'll email you.

Lovely colour gradation in the sky and I like the positioning of the the two islands. I agree with Dave about some local curves adjustments.
