Beautiful portrait image ...but I have to bring notice to the elephant in the room - the unidentified black blurred object, bottom right, that does unarguably distract from the subject and has remained unmentioned.

Very Rabindra Prakarsa .. I couldn't tell the difference & my initial thought was that it was him .. The
lighting & the editing style. Very nice image.

Lovely pano style with nice glorious but gentle colour. Personally a tiny bit more space between the right boat and edge would be even nicer but still definately beautiful.

Great drama in the clouds, good composition and a nice sense of scale with the lone figure ..

Yep, that's a Taylor Wessing winner for you. Sadly I can't imagine a school portrait by a photographer, on auto pilot, churning them out by the hundreds, looking any different. Sorry to be negative but someone has to say it ... some may disagree and think it is wonderful, imaginative, moving, inspiring etc.

Have to concurr with MrDennis ... This image leaves me cold, uninspired, blank and not amused by any juxtaposition or incongruous situation whatsoever. Maybe it should reside in a slightly amusing local news sideline covering religion on a very slow news day but as an example of photographic excellence of any kind it gives me absolutely nothing. It demonstrates no evidence of any photographic excellence, originality, ingenuity, inventiveness or anything else whatsoever and indeed is pretty much the same point and shoot fodder anyone owning a camera of any kind would take when encountering a sign we find amusing and sending it to our local newspaper or friends on facebook although lacking in any real amusement or interest.

Quote:I wish them good luck, I just hope they have managed to improve the battery life!

It has a larger battery so is expected to have improved battery life, although I haven't been able to get a figure.

It actually says it uses the same BP-51 battery that is in the original DP Merrils .. So presumably they will have reduced the power consumption and not changed the battery/charger.

Had a look at the finalists and was very pleased with the quality of images compared with my usual feeling when looking at competition finalists ... Not just a selection of bland human portrait misery or post apocalyptical landscapes etc .. Will certainly have a closer look.

'From The Train - Trees In Winter' .. I swear I deleted a few from my camera, almost identical to this one. Damn my impulsive finger ... On a positive note we actually have one image with people smiling instead of the usual durges of human misery and post industrial decay that usually populate these lists.

Makes a nice change to have a fun image win a competition .. the composition does annoyingly pull me a lot to the black block of tree trunk to the right though and the girl does the same, being on the right as well and with the head tilting to the right. Nice subject though. Congrats.

Strong, gritty image with strong mood but very very processed - a subject currently running in the forums. The rain is only visible where there are buildings as background and a little in the very strong halo on the buildings. I know rain will vary in visibility according to background but it does look odd and false - no apparent rain in the top left at all. I don't mind PS but sometimes, and now more often, the winners of comps are those who edit the best .. But this looks more like PS gone a little too far and not used subtly ... (tin hat on).

Its an interesting subject. I am holding an exhibition that will feature images taken on the Ipad and edited soley on the Ipad, almost exclusively using free app software, in order to show what can be done with low-quality equipment. My Ipad camera is somewhat poorer than some phone cameras so it is a challenge but also quite fun and liberating, being able to produce a finished image whilst still at the scene compared with sitting at the computer in my office :o)
