By Morpyre
a small white ball with natural light from the window. now to spoil the atmosphere; it is a deodorant ball (clean) on the plate rack in my kitchen. looked interesting so i pointed my camera =)

nice lighting, nice and sharp but its just a tiny bit random. the ball is only jsut in the photo and its on a distracting background. no click

This very nearly works extremely well Peter. If you could get rid of the ends of the channels, so the diagonals run to the edge of the frame, it would be spot on.

Excellent lighting.

thanks for the advice - i agree - on the next version i could centre the ball more in the middle at the bottom and i agree about making the channels run further.

it is always hard with a photo to decide when it is at the truely finished stage. i can quite often finally decide to post then notice something to change on the version on my harddrive. but that is the fun of experimenting, keep going till it works 100%

thanks again

It's an excellent image, but impossible for me to describe why I like it so much..

The sphere itself is an instant hit with me; what was also instant was that I immediately associated it with you before I even saw your name Smile

Well done dude

It's creative and different. The control of light and shade is excelent in this. someone once said its the dark spaces that add interest to B/W photo's. I do like how the ball is lit, but as Ian says the diagonal lines would look better going into the corner.

So I would say take it a few more times from different angles.

Now that is what I call "arty farty" - as you can tell, I am very experienced in fine-art critique!! Not!
I think it's quite striking as it is, but I wish you hadn't told us what it was - the romance has gone!

Composition is good, light is terrific. I'm in agreement about the diagonals running to the edge of the frame. Well executed image though.

What on earth were you doing with a deodorent ball?! Your imagination is to be commended, as you've produced a good shot.

Might be worth trying to leave out the top corner, but it kinda works for me, as it gives that corner something to do.

Don't care what it is, it worked as an image for me, great shot,
Chris.
I just had someone walk into the room and see this, so, here is a non-photographer's opinion: "Oh, wow! That's cool!"

Just to make the point that - who cares what it is, how it was altered or photoshopped or whatever. It's the resulting image that is all that matters. And this is a brilliant one. =)

thank you all very much Grin

doing this thing of finding something out of nothing has increased the size of my house and its enjoyment tenfold now - as i walk from room to room i now notice more as potential photographs.

i realise now i should have said rollerball bottle rather than deodorant - i was being to open and honest with my creativity lol

Hi Peter,

You have had some good feedback on this image so all I will say is that the ball and the lines really work well together, but possibly using a reflector to get a little more light on the dark side of the ball would add a lot more shape to it. Well seen.
Chris
