Collared Earthstar (Geastrum Triplex)

By ZoeKemp
While out with the dogs this pm we found loads of fungi.

Nature has a fun shaped bra in this photo hahaha !

Collared Earthstar (Geastrum Triplex)
Earthstars are like a puffball with star shaped outer skin which usually has 5 or 6 shapes to it.
The puffball part is full of spores .
This fungi is inedible as tough and full of spores. we found it under a sweet chest nut tree ( the ones you roast for christmas) they can also be found under beech trees and in chalky areas.
they are flesh coloured.

We where trying to work out what they where. Mick ( hubby) thought they were sweet chestnuts still in their spikey outer, that had opened and had a chestnut sporing in the middle. As Mick found them surrounded with sweet chestnuts.
I thought they looked like a fungi.
I did a little research and they are fungi. Not commonally found. Mick was in right place. I was photographing some others when he found them. They where in a shaded dark area. I had to play about to get the light right.
