Award Shortlist

From Nash Point

By mrarth
I was in business in Cardiff yesterday, and having come to the conclusion that I spend too much time driving home and missing the light decided to stay a little. I was heading for Dunraven, then came across Nash Point and stayed. I got home at 1am.
This is looking towards Dunraven.

3 stop ND soft grad.

Love the lighting on the rocks. i think the fact that you've used 50/50 for the shot makes it a little less intersting than if you'd used 2/3 rocks and 1/3 sky, or vice-versa.

Thanks Meg.
Al, I have a few takes on this, some do follow the 'rules', but this morning I prefer this, simply because it has the sky and the water 'framing' the foreground rock, but that may change.

Rules are to be broken and you've broken them well. It's such an interesting sky that you would have lost a lot of that if you'd stuck to the rules. Well done.

works well, like the long shutter speed to smooth out the sea

Lovely work. Funnily enough I was in Cardiff as well, and went out this morning to Penarth - not as good a view as this though.

Thanks for all the comments.
Mari, didn't mean to trespass, first time I've actually taken a look at this bit of coast and I was very impressed, I'll have to get out more. Couple more to come I think.

Rules? What are they? This has a fantastic sky and land in about equal portions, so why not split it up? I give each element it's due, depending on its importance. Well worth the effort of getting home at 1am! I seem to miss seeing your shots, probably because you upload them when I'm asleep, as I live in San Francisco. You have some quality stuff in your gallery!
