Carmen's modification is good (she knows about this sort of work!) What she has done is to both give the face a more 3-dimensional feel and accentuate the textures running across it, which are rather lost in the original.

You have placed the eyes much better in this frame, I think!

I may have a go at a mod myself. I think it's really about strengthening the midtones, by one means or another.
Moira

EDIT - I'll upload a quick modification (it took all of two minutes...) All I did was - call up Levels and move the middle (midtones) slider right to 0.50; very gentle use of the burn tool over the face - large brush, set to Shadows, just 4% exposure; reduce saturation by 30%.

Just suggestions. It's not as adventurous as Carmen's mod but I have to go out soon!

I rather like pale portraits: so I worked at even lighter, but with the shadows very deep.

The 'film' surround, the frame, is very elaborate: I reckon it owrks, but often, a slimmer and less decorative look works better. I haven't pinned down why I think that this is an exception - maybe because hte styling is rather Sixties - on the cusp between very traditional work with large format sheet film and miniature cameras taking over...

It works very well for me. As its digital art, its very subjective, and in addition. the screen calibration, browser, etc of the viewer can influence what is seen.

OK Good Folks--I have tried what you said and me thinks you could be correct.
Next step is to see which one others like in my forums when I post both.
Yes, you may post your version here so I can see if I followed your critique ok.

Thank You

Nice and arty, I like the colours.
Just a couple of things that spring to mind..
The film bit at the top detracts for me, scrolling the image and viewing without it makes for better impact from the subject imho.
The other thing is...the outlined of her face are quite harsh in a couple of places, against her right cheek and next to her left eye. Those areas do look a little out of place as I rather like the effects across the rest of her face.
I will have a go at a mod, see if I can show you what I mean.

Thank you for your feedback thus far Dennis, it is so important to us lot.

So, I cropped the top off and a touch round the other 3 sides.
Added some blur to the places I mentioned above.
Used the burn tool at 4% on her eyes.

I've enjoyed looking at the modifications, probably as much as you have. What a difference they make! I particularly like Janet's lighter approach because it reminds me of looking into a very old distresed mirror.
I don't like your frame very much, and this is simply because it keeps drawing my gaze away from the face.

All the mods are good as they all have a different mood and feel, a sign of a good image to start with, so that's a thumbs up.

I'm with Janet and Pamela on the border. It's the very top that looks artificial and once noticed does draw my eye. Thinner, or wioth the top matching the style of the other three side so the viewer concentrates on the face.
Please not that this is a small point in the overall image which I think you've executed very well.

SO! How can I see your modifications on my image. Would like to see to decide if I like it or not. Thanks.

Dennis, to see our mods, click on the small blue rectangle below your image, at the moment it reads 'modifications (3) ' . Three small white squares will appear, numbered 1,2,3 each one has a mod done in the order they were commented on.
Hope that helps.

Thank You All--I did a darker one, I did other things and I cropped the frame.
Funny thing is, I prefer my lighter one but with the Cropped Frame. Strange how we all see things differently.

Once again, Thank You for your Critiques/comments. Appreciated.

Dennis, I don't have the artistic talent to create (or critique) your original image - or the wonderful modifications uploaded. However, just for the record, I really do like the original; it is an image that will spark comments for generations if it was printed, framed appropriately, and hung on a wall. t
