Air supremacy

By mrswoolybill
You've either got it or you haven't...
The last upload from our local BMX festival this was the time trial. I got some quite decent action pictures but it's not really my thing, I'm more interested in people. I was looking for a shot for the town calendar, showing the track as well as the spectators, and I did get that sorted (cute kid, snazzy helmet, parental consent...).
Incidentally we have a rather good track which was designed a few years ago by an ePHOTOzine member, nefaman. He hasn't been around here for a while which is a pity it would be nice for him to see how much his work is appreciated. Does anyone have contact with him off-site?
Thanks for looking,
Moira

A stunning shot Moira and a great finish to the series.
So when have you booked your first lesson for? Wink

Would I trust one of these lads with my camera John? I think they probably feel the same about their bikes.

A fine monochrome. I particularly like the two heads on the left.

Thanks, there are three actually. I was pleased with them, they give a sense of the height of the jump. (Fortunately the lads did some practice laps before the event so I could see where they were getting the highest jumps).
Excellent action shot, lots to see.. Like the peering head shots in the left corner

The spectators form an important element in this well timed action shot.

No helmet. Brave?......Foolish?
Looks like some of the spectators are too cool to appear interested ( or maybe they've just....yawn...yawn...... seen it all before )Grin

-Helluva shot, Moira, well planned and supremely well executed.

Top shot, perfectly framed. Not everyone is that interested though it seems. Pay attention at the back there. Smile

"He flies through he air with the greatest of ease, and lands with a bang breaking his knees"
An adaption of the old old flying trapeze saying...read this once in a bike magazine whilst waiting at the dentist. At that moment, breaking my knees seemed preferable to the dentist's drill...

Thanks everyone, and special thanks to Sandy for the GEA, that's a real surprise and bonus!
The spectators were important, because I was photographing the event for the Town Council and wanted to show that it was well supported. The competition was organised by club specialists and I was surprised that they didn't insist on helmets. I felt that I needed one to take this...
Love Malc's rhyme.

I see a lot of these BMX bikes around Edinburgh Moira.
It does seem a popular mode of transport for the ''hoodies'' for some reason.
Nice to see a face on one for a change !!

I'd say this one fills the bill for the calendar and then some. An impressive action shot.
I also like the mono treatment you used.
The people peeking over the mound made me chuckle....a typical Moira photo.

Thanks again folks. Yung, I wasn't in any real danger, the track is a circuit that goes over a series of bumps, I was standing beside rather than under one of them. I had agreed with the organisers what I would do, and where.
