Garland and guide

By mrswoolybill
OK, that's enough of Christmas kiddy winkies, let's get back to the real world.
This was taken in the Church of Our Lady in the grounds of Seaton Delaval Hall. The church was built by local stone masons at the end of the 11th Centurry, as a private chapel for the newly installed Norman Delaval family. The arches are Norman (and the east window a later addition), but the structure as a whole is a last hurrah for Anglo-Saxon architecture, low, squat and sturdy.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

I find myself wondering about what appears to be a wooden tray full of small stones in the pew...

Well, here's to 'low, squat and sturdy'. I less than handsomely embody the first two but may be a little less of the latter with advancing years. A lovely image Moira and the point of view makes for a lovely composition.
All the very best for 2020, G. SmileSmileSmile

They're for the delectation
of the congregation,
obviously.... Mints!

Or perhaps, more appropriately, Humbugs.

Thanks everyone and thanks Joline for the UA.
As for the tray of pebbles, I have no idea. A penitential kneeler?
