The ghosts of Christmas past

By mrswoolybill
This needs a bit of explanation. A couple of months ago the local Community Partnership took over an empty shop (we have very few) for use as exhibition space. Currently it has a display of Christmas trees decorated by various local community groups. This one was contributed by the volunteers who have restored the West Road Cemetery, and it features photos of some of the occupants.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Wonderful idea and wonderful shots Moira. Occupants always strikes me as an odd way to describe those under the ground... I've always favoured inmates Smile

I love old photographs, there is no 'click & run' with them. You know that they are a big event and really meant something.

"As I was walking up the stairs to dad's old room, and I was looking at the photographs, I started thinking that there was a time when these weren't memories. That someone actually took the photograph, and the people in the photograph had just eaten lunch or something."

What a good idea. Smile
They all look like DIckens' characters in these photos. A bit creepy, but of their day.

That's how I always view old pictures! Smile

A good idea, instead of the usual baubles! When doing my Family Tree, I found a site that would give an idea of the date they were taken of old photographs.

Thanks folks. Ian, regarding dates, I'm guessing that the information will be known. The organisers have traced the families of the occupants / inmates, that's part of the overall restoration project; they were concerned to get their permission for this.

Lovely old photos, so often they get lost, or destroyed (in my family's case probably in a WW2 bombing raid). I have no reliably identifiable photos from before the 20th century.
A good idea which could be easily turned into a more permanent exhibition.

Back when they told people to keep eyes open and mouth closed. Great set
Moira. I just had a thought....maybe in those days they never went to dentists and didn't have teeth. How sad is that....

Always interesting to delve into the past and what an unusual way to remember those folk at rest there.

The beauty of photographs. The names still have faces and their memories live on.
