The last magic lantern

By mrswoolybill
I've been fascinated by these lamps at the Library building site. This is probably the last such upload as the building's electric lighting system is fully up and running now – and it's those clever lights that come on automatically when you go into a room, so no chance of avoiding them.
This is not the lamp that Bill uploaded at the end of December, this one was lying on the floor. Much easier to manoeuvre...
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Wonderful shadows, Moira, can almost feel the warmth fron the bulb. It's blowing a gale here this morning, such a change from the last couple of days Sad Carol

Nice shot! This light might be very good to get to shoots some night bugs hum? IB
I was about to ask if this was on the floor, then read the caption instead of jumping straight in. The clever lights go off when you leave the room is the principle I think Moira.

Great control over the light but the dark right hand side adds the impact. - gary

Thanks to everyone who's called in here. The library is nearing completion now, it's down to the cosmetic details. The next big story will be the moving-in (some time in late February)!

Great warmth and tone, and exquisite detail exposed by the oblique lighting.

Danny Brannigan, aesthete extraordinaire... First the Community Partnership has to sort out with the architects some means of hanging pictures on the walls, they didn't think of that in the original plans...
Thanks folks, I'll be back later.

You have turned the mundane into beauty with this one. I agree with Danny....you should have an exhibit of the progress. Maybe you could set it up in the lobby on stands.

That lamp just radiates! Strong light draws you in. I'm very fond of strong light/shadow captures and this one is no exception. Well composed on the diagonal with curving diagonal shadows adding to the satisfaction of viewing this.

Ah but the walls are pristine and pure, without knowledge of Blue-tak or drawing pins even, who would be the first to defile them? I have pointed out that they are going to have to find a solution some time anyway, as there are things like town-twinning charters to be displayed. It's virgin territory as yet.

Oh lol, the community partnership has to have a meeting with architects. I've been away from such nonsense for too long LOL. Get in there with a hammer and/or a drill woman Smile

These lamps are so photogenic you should stock up in case you get withdrawal symptoms.

The building has a very nice balcony at second floor level, where Bill has already staked a claim to a position when the Olympic torch passes along the main street - I don't want to be banned from the building just yet!
Life is so much easier for people who can slip back behind the skirting board when they've finished work... Wink

Great shot, Moira, nicely exposed and the bulb isn't burnt out (no pun intended!), and shows the glass in the bulb itself. Has provided some nice shadows, too Smile
