No particular place to go

By mrswoolybill
The sign is genuine... Itís maybe fitting that this was taken beside a disused railway line. It survived Dr Beeching but was axed in the 1985 cuts. I prefer V2 as a composition but without the easily legible name it doesnít really work on its own.
Thanks for looking,

good morning, Moira! i like them both a lot, but it seems to me v1 has a bit more of melancholy in it (probably because the angle makes me look at it as if through some traveler's eyes)... v2 is a more daring approach i'd say, and the LB rather give it dynamism, than melancholy. But as I said, both are intriguing and nice to look at...

... and now I have that song on my mind
Thankyou Moira

Nowhere near home then? Good use of the lens here Moira, looks kinda spooky to me.

Morning Moira, two super shots, for me it has to be V1.

Morning M - I prefer v1, although both look good. A nice use of radial blur (looks like that's what you've used?), and a good subject for mono. Bob

Thanks folks. This is on the Consett-Sunderland line which is now a cycle path.
Bob, the radial blur comes from the Lensbaby, it's in camera not Photoshop.

The blur make it look like you were in an express train!

I like the blur, gives it a kind of sinister atmosphere - clever work Moira!

The LB works well in this Moria, you almost get the feeling that it is a reflection in water, but then it is a sign to No place.
Hope you have a good weekend.
Regards Richard
works for me great shots V1 was my Fav!

V2 for looks like we are rushing to an unknown. Very Dr. Who-ish.

V1 here Moira for the reasons you state.I am surprised the sign is still here. These railway buffs would pay a rather large some of money for this !! A shot suited to the ''baby''.

It's an ordinary footpath sign Mick, not a BR sign. There really is a hamlet call No Place, near to Beamish. Unfortunately it's too small to get onto Google maps.
Thanks again folks, I was expecting this one to bomb spectacularly.

Great sets of recent images, Moira - recognised those figures and shiny metal ring from my visit to Perth a couple of New Years ago! Please excuse lack of or brief comments - lots to catch up on since coming back from holiday! I have, though, looked at each and every one of your lovely images that I've missed whilst away.
Happy belated Ruby Wedding Anniversary, too.

I thought perhaps it could have been a BR logo before the wording ''no place''.Now I know why it is still there !!

V2 for me Moira.
It seems you became really acquainted with the baby!
the sweet spot is exactly where it should be.

Perhaps its pointing to "Home" Moira, like there's No Place Like.....

I like the movement and energy in this one. Good to break rules, and it works.

Truly brilliant find Moira! I have a great one from Cornwall for next Friday! I particularly like the treatment here, as its almost like something from a bad dream! Most appropriate.

Another great LB capture, with the blur giving the sense of rushing to No Place - or maybe 'getting nowhere fast'.

I agree about the comp in v2 being better, but also agree that the focus in v1 is spot on, with the "right" amount of blur over the name.
And an award from Ollie says it all!

No1 Moira, I can't agree with the above, the composition works much better, on many, many levels, diagonals, leadlines, traingulation, yes even thirds. The only bit I would look at is the white bit on ther lower sign, as its a bit destracting..

Love this. Doing some quick research on the net is says that 'No Place' is home to a real ale pub. Perhaps this is how the customers see the sign as they stagger home.

In v2 the eyes end up at the tip of the arrow which i think is good.
