Taking hold

Boulder and tree roots, in the grounds of Cragside. The house seems rooted in the rock it is built on, this could be a symbol for the whole estate.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Lovely textures; the tree root looks almost muscular.

Trees and woods I find the hardest subject to photograph. Unless there is a subject that stands out I do struggle.

Thats what so great here, you have found the subject and turn it to art, great job.

A really great, 'gritty' image.

Thanks everyone, and thanks Ollie for the UA.
I agree that woodland is difficult, I am not a landscaper so I look for detail rather than the Bigger Picture. I spotted this boulder as we walked round the Carriage Drive, it pretty well jumped out at me. I became quite obsessed with it, and photographed it again on a second visit. That one will appear tomorrow, it's quite different.
And we are heading that way again on Friday... Grin

A very poignant and splendid image Moira.

Nature will do as it sees fit, something we have known for millennia and have chosen to ignore for far to long, even though in the past nature has issued it's warnings. So nature will find it's own solution to the problem as always. We find ourselves in the midst of natures problem solving. Will we ever learn, doubt it. So off we go to the Moon and then on to Mars, if we make it in time 🤣🤣
That ends the sermon for today 😁😁😁😁😁

It looks to have real firm grip on the soil, and all the side roots, once anchored, will make it even more secure.

My brain is kind of like Dave's. But I see a leg clinging to a horse riding bareback. I think we camera people may all have a bit of weird in us. Great image though Moira.

Beautiful capture of this resilient tree, I like to take photos of trees on boulders , it's about the strength of nature.
