The Violin Shop 2

By mrswoolybill
Hexham again, on a morning when the sun shone.
My apologies for spending very little time on the site at the moment, life is busy! Explanation to follow in a couple of days time, I hope.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Considering the extensive amount of work needed to make the violin look and sound as it should, £2,250 is an extortionate amount of money to ask for it. Or maybe the locals are extremely rich?
However; it's a very nicely worked image and a pleasure to view.

Thanks everyone, and thanks to Ed and Leo for their UAs.
John, you can buy an imported factory-made violin for a few hundred pounds. As with everything, you pay more for quality. The Tyne Valley has a strong musical tradition.

A truly pleasant image to look at. The curly shadows remind me a bit of music tonality.
There is a great relaxing mood in this image. The layered composition may have something to do with it? Even the price tag gets your mind going... is that cheap or expensive, is it a good quality instrument or not?
Is that timber with its pattern part of another bigger instrument and do forth..

The alto clef shadow is appropriate, Moira, and super detail on the violin. I guess Otto's German violins are well favoured.

Not quite a Stradivarius, so a bit to go before reaching their prices! Well composed and processed image, Moira.

Lovely image Moira, lots to fire the imagination.

Did some research, and if that is an original Otto circa 1770's, that is a very conservative price for a renovation opportunity. One just sold for £18,750 at auction.

That's very interesting, thanks David. It's also puzzling to me, as the shop belongs to an instrument maker and restorer, I'm surprised he hasn't done the job himself...
Thanks everyone, and thanks to Robert, Ken, Chris, John, Ian, Viola and Somnath for adding their UAs. I'm amazed at how well this one has fared - I have been busy working on images from yesterday...

Otto ( the Company ) are still producing fine violins today, Moira, so this may be a later model, may also be that he wants to sell it before doing the restoration for the new owner. It does present a number of questions Smile
Interesting fact that a lot of the violins made around this time were all following Stradivarius plans.

But there's no date on it, and some later Ottos ( and there was actually more than one violin maker with that name ) go for about £250.
