Love the sense of openess this conveys.

What's weird is if you take the figure away it looks as if the shot could have been taken a few feet from the waves!

Simple shot that works well because of the inclusion of the figure, as Mark said take the figure out and it looks like a close up and would not have worked so well.

Lovely photograph mule,the figure at the bottom of the shot gives a pulling effect down from looking at the waves.shall have a closer look at the rest of your profile.
Also like the black border.

Like those waves. Have you tried cloning out the man for a different type of shot?

For me, the picture is all about the figure (actually a child) running away from the waves and the incoming tide.

The only adjustments from the out of camera image are to crop out the lower part of the pic - some unavoidable distractions which I always intended to crop, and a tweak to the levels (plus the obligatory pre unsharp mask to account for web quality).

I have another similar pic, with two figures (I'm guessing they're this chaps parents) taken at the same time which I plan on uploading tomorrow.

Great shot.
Nice colour and lighting.
As above, without the figure, it looks like a close up of the waves.
