NeilSchofield

Welcome to my portfolio of images, I am fortunate to be retired and am able to spend a lot of my time enjoying and photographing nature and in particular behaviours, as well as travelling extensively in the U.K
I hope you enjoy viewing my gallery on EPZ and please note that most images posted have many versions included with the original image, these are either of a sequence nature, or have variations in composition

  • Little Bittern in Flight by NeilSchofield

RF 100-500mm and 1.4 TC, very nice combination if a little slow from an aperture point of view, works quite well with the 2x but even slower, however very nice to travel with

In combination with the new R bodies, It gets me shots I have struggled with in the past, still learning how to get the best out of the new system, but no way am I using a DSLR again, AF lock on and tracking are magical in comparison

Canon needs to take note of the price, size, weight and performance of these Nikon latest offerings

The RF 800 at its current price is a joke as no doubt will any new R1 body

Good luck to you Nikon togs with your offerings from Nikon

  • Posted on: Canon Introduce RF 800mm F5.6L IS USM & RF 1200mm F8L IS USM Lenses

    No pinch lens cap (Zemlin)

    No Arca type Foot (RRS)

    No collapsable hood (Lenscoat)

Probably provided with a sarcophagus which wonít hold a body attached (Benro)

    No protective cover (Lenscoat)

Probably with a stupid requirement to attach Teleconverters to the lens first rather than the body

Not withstanding all that I would like to pre order and trade in my 600mm which is used mostly with a 2x TC attached, subject to the 1200mm performance with TCs however I have just seen the sterling price, gouging isnt a strong enough word to describe it

1680 mm with a 1.4 TC is very appealing if it performs, now whereís the R7 with integrated grip that can handle it or even an R3 available in the UK

  • Posted on: Canon Announce 3 New Lenses

For £13k you would at least expect an Arca foot, why do canon do this, iíll bet itís got a difficult baggy hood and case that wonít take a body attached as well, same goes for the 400mm

Another two opportunities of supplying a lens with an Arca compatible foot missed

When will Canon realise that most folk will either attach more weight by buying an arca type plate or simply replace the foot with a product from some one else, either way the lens becomes either heavier or more expensive

Check your sensor by shooting a blue sky with a small aperture by all means, but do take two shots as there can be far more rubbish flying around in the atmosphere than any dust bunnies you might have on your sensor, when examining the results, as you move from one image to the next any particle that moves position on your sensor isnít a dust bunny

Awaiting the reviews and firesale, way too pricey, weather sealing, 4K and a new more powerful battery would have possibly justified the price

It has a high end price without high end features, not too sure who their target market is, initially it may sell well, and will in my view require price drops for sales to be sustained, so a mark ll wont be too far off

At £800 with the new zoom lens I would have pre ordered, but will stick with the M10 for now and see what happens

My advice If there is any lighting whatsoever would be to shoot in RAW and then try using the click white balance on various parts of an image, it can produce interesting results and can help with either over or under exposed images

You can also achieve this if converting to mono, by using coloured filters in mono processing

Additionally if you get great image that doesn't work in colour, try monochroming it and if that doesn't work, try posterisation

  • Posted on: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4 E FL ED VR Review

Weight and bulk shouldn't always be viewed as " cons", perhaps if you compared the lens to its predecessor, you would see that this lens is smaller and lighter and a step up technology wise

The real cons with this type of lens are the fact the the lens feet are not Arca compatible and require a plate or third party replacement foot( Kirk or RRS ), the lens hoods are fiddly and bulky, with snap on 3rd party ones being far better (Don Zeck) and the fact that they come with magnificent really expensive cases that won't fit with a body attached, those are the three areas that the manufacturers need slating on

A F4 600 mm is never going to be anything other than large and heavy because of the laws of physics however the weight can be a plus if you use the right support gear, particularly in hides, where I use a skimmer ground pod

Additionally a lot of people who buy this type of lens do so to shoot beyond 600mm, where its capability to take teleconverters is crucial, tracking AF capability is just as important however the review doesn't seem to cover these aspects and the only real comparators to this lens are its predecessor, the canon equivalent, and the sigma 300-800

Agree with the comments above, info on 300mm would be very appropriate

As regards the Canon Comparison thorough, wouldn't the EF 100-400mm Mark 2 be more appropriate than the f4 supertele(price) zoom
