Llyn Celyn

By netta1234
LLyn Celyn is a large reservoirconstructed between 1960+1965 in the valley of the river Tryweryn in Gwynedd, near Bala.
800 acres of land was drowned,as well as the school,Post Office, chapel and Cemetry in order tocreate Llyn Tryweryn to provide water to Liverpool.(google will give you all the details)
But we have had 2 really dry summer and I have walked down there twice and the bridge was there and it was a verry sad feeling to walk down there.

The tree in the bottom left hand corner and the smaller on the right help make this shot very well conceived, love it, regards Leon.GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

A sad story. We also have a similar story with Hirakud Dam, in Orissa, India. The same was built devastating 60 squire mile area about 480 villages went underwater, to produce electricity & irrigation. The submerged area was famous for exotic variety of paddy. People are yet to receive compensation or rehabilitation scheme as pronounced by the then Govt. Now people feel the wrath, silting is main problem, water holding capacity is so meg-re the turbines remain idle during summer. Our great Prime minister Nehru, got the accolade, & went to heaven, leaving us to suffer only.

I love your image Netta, but it is a shame it comes at such a high price. We too are suffering in Kent with Kuwait have a higher rainfall. Bewl Water Reservoir has been looking more like an oasis, just hope all the rain we have had has done some good at last ... Carol Grin
