A lot of the subject is "blown out" This can be prevented by looking at the histogram on your camera before you take the shot and make sure that the graph is not climbing the Right side wall. Always expose for the brightest part of the image .

Agree with Mark above, about exposing for the brightest part. It may under-expose the darker areas but it is more preferable.
