  • Winter at Spurlswood Beck

    Hi Soren,

It's just near the Blackling Hole car park, upstream of the main waterfall and the bridge. It's pretty easy to get to in normal weather but I like visiting in snow because it's near impossible to get a car within half an hour's walk of it and that seems to turn it into a real wilderness some how.

I walked along the valley floor today and found the footprints I left a week ago. No other prints in sight. That has to be pretty rare on this crowded little island Smile

I love the way that normally busy Hamsterley becomes a genuine wilderness in the snow. Great shot. By way of a little feedback the grad line between sky and trees is maybe just a bit too strong to be comfortable? I realise it would be tricky to do otherwise though.

    cheers,
    John

  • Farr point 4

    A powerful shot. Well done.

  • Thomason Foss II

I like the unusual angle through the greenery - not a view I've seen used here before and it works really well.

  • Sycamore Gap

Beautifully taken. My only feedback would be that there seem to be some obvious cloning marks (maybe?) top right, but it's a great shot.

  • Clumber Sunset

Hey - perfect timing. The light through the swan's wings is fantastic.

  • That tree.

    Fantastic. Perfectly colour balanced IMO.

  • Christmas Day in Trough of Bowland

A great scene, well composed. I'd maybe push the contrast a little higher with a bit of curves adjustment.

    cheers,

  • Iced Lake

I find the inset frame a little distracting personally but like the shot overall. Great comp.

I don't disagree with the contrast comments but I wouldn't overdo it. It has a great atmosphere about it. Well done.

    Works for me too.

  • Heather at Roseberry

It's rare to find a new take on a familiar place but this really stands out as something original.

  • Scalebar Force

Yes - great comp and you've done well to handle the dappled light and shade.

  • G O L D

Beautifully presented as others have said but you also seem to have got the saturation and exposure just spot on, without over doing it.

  • Warren Breakwater #1

The tones work really well. Great shot.

Fantastic contrast between the corn field and the grey sky - very powerful.

  • Swirling Tide

I'm not sure I can really describe why but it certainly has a lot more about it than the typical posts-in-the-sea-at-sunset shot. I'm pretty sure it's something about comp rather than light for me but it's too much in my subconscious to articulate I'm afraid Smile

You've definitely made the most of the height with the wide angle. Works well.

You've certainly made good use of a powerful lead-in.

  • Katy Curd

Fantastic. It captures the atmosphere really well and the exposure's spot on with just a little rotation blur in the wheels.

  • Sunset Blitz

I like the way the subtle shade colours in the foreground contrast with the light on the cliff here. Fantastic shot.

It's certainly a powerful shot. Very impressive.

I have a thing for lone, gnarly trees anyway but the treatment is superb here. Fantastic atmosphere.
