Not everything in this world is perfect and even if there was a fault with the flower it really would't matter. This is an excellent shot, brilliant colours and love the overall composition.

Beautiful, Niamh, Beautiful! =)
Really like the use of the black background to contrast against the petals...shows a form of strong elegance (slightly oxymoronish??) And the yellow part is perfectly sharp.

Big big click...!

My weekend was fab! Met up with friends from different nationalities and had a real cultural exchange. =) Hope yours was good too?

thanks matt, mavis and gareth!

gareth, the black background is some cheap black cotton doubled over, and it's lit with a maglite through some cream coloured muslin. long exposure: about 30 seconds. levels adjusted in ps.

The colours are really great, so strong and deep. I'd like to see some other compositions in terms of using the black space (just have a feeling there is a slightly better placement of the flower out there i.e. slightly higher in the frame) - but it's lovely.

Everyone is doing flowers these days. It must be with the competition. I've taken flower shots but nothing comes close the the quality of the shots that have been uploaded lately and this is one of them -Rab

A beautiful and eye catching image. Great work, I love it.

I did think there was a touch of softness in the petals ( limited DoF ? ) and wondered if it could be rectified so tried Enhance Edges (in PSP8) and I think it helped a tad, the interesting fact that I found was that if applied again a weave pattern appeared in the image which I can only assume was from the muslin you used to diffuse the light - maybe not as diffused as you thought.
