My father being ex Air Force, myself as well and his Uncle in two services as a pilot loved this. For us the History jumped out. Thanks.

It's either a North American "Harvard," which has retractable undercarriage, or it's its predecessor, the North American "Cadet," which had fixed undercarriage.

Chances are, it's a "Harvard."
