The Quayside Revisited

By Nick_w
An image from a while ago. The main reason since I moved to Lightroom I've been less than enamoured by some of my uploads, looking different on upload.

Well anyone looking in the forums may have seen that I have been having problems getting the same results out of Lightroom as Captureone, so I went back to the files to look at a folder that did well a couple of years back. It was on a visit to the Quayside with Dan Pearson (Culturedcanvas) anyone remember him ?

Now I tried to size this for the web, and it looked washed out - suspecting something amiss I checked the action to see it was going to adobeRGB from Prophoto..such a silly mistake (explains why my laptop uploads have lacked a bit of contrast too)..

large is definately better - but still quite a bit lacking on the TIFF version

Anyway let me know what you think

This might come down too, the colours particulary Reds are far too muted from the Tiff - any ideas ? (the blues should also be slightly more to the purple tint). ahhh

This doesn't look muted on my screen, but I follow you comment about the blues needing to head a bit more towards purple, there's a very particular purple/brown glow that the sky over Tyneside produces immediately after sunset and I guess that's what you feel is lacking here. But I still like it! (Particularly that light on the fence bottom right).

Thanks everyone. My main concern was lightroom so I think I'm there now - I'm just wondering if there is still a miss match between Vista and CS2 ?

A good looking shot Nick, and I remember this (or something like it) from a good while back. I remember Dan too .... diamond geezer.

Maybe those sunset colours are a touch too saturated? Or maybe my old eyes are a touch jaded?

Looks good to me. The colours certainly aren't muted on my monitor. If anything I'd go with DaveU that they are perhaps a tiny bit over saturated. Wonderful as it is though

Thanks everyone. It maybe just a touch over saturated, however I dialed in minus saturation on the reds / oranges ! Though I did dial up the vibrancy, maybe to reduce it a bit in future

It was one of those wizz bang sunset that we get about once a year - probably aided by the polution in the Tyne valley ?

Looks like you were stood in exactly the same spot as when I shot my 'More Curves' on our Camera Club outing on 12th July! This looks far better and more colourful than mine, especially viewed large, and can't see anything wrong with this on my monitor, Nick. Excellent.
