The Wonder of Yosemite

By Nick_w
First of all a big thanks to the "team" for the EC on the last upload (seams a long time ago now) and Dave for the User Award. It looks like it was very much of a Marmite image... anyway

I'm just back from a holiday of a lifetime to California, and still suffering from Jetlag. It wasn't really meant for photography, but I just had to get some images of Yosemite. Hands up those who's love of Black and White photography was in part influenced by the great man Ansel Adams? As far back as I can remember I have admired his stunning images of Yosemite. To cap it off I saw a framed print of "Moon and Half Dome" printed by the man himself, for sale for a bargain of $45,000 !!!

This is an image of Tenya Canyon and Half Dome in the late evening. I'm extremely happy with this in print.

It just may have given me a bit of a spur to "do" more mono landscapes this year.

A fine view. I only saw it once, fleetingly and I had a little manual camera and had to guess the exposure on Kodachrome. Over exposed by a stop so the result was useless. I wanted to stay but everyone else (my wife excluded) was hell bent on getting to Nevada. Grin I really must go back, and see if I can pick up one of Ansel's bargains! Oh yes, and spend some time capturing the scenery.Smile

Excellent POV Nick, we couldn't get here due to the roads being closed because of snow. Good mono to cap it all !!

What a fabulous trip that must have been. This is beautiful up large. You can see all the detail in the trees at the bottom of the shot.

Love the image and a place for the bucket list, got to see an Ansel Adams exhibition in Edinburgh a few years ago, so took a good look at your image picking out the places I know from his images. LovelyGrinGrin

Thanks everyone. Your right Chris, the thumb on here makes it look like it lacks a bit of contrast, but the print really shines - I've started to print most of my images so they are geared more to how they look in print than on screen these days.

What a fabulous trip that must have been Nick & what a stunning viewpoint here.

Quote:the thumb on here makes it look like it lacks a bit of contrast,

I agree, not quite the B&W 'punch' that Adams would have produced, maybe needs just a touch more curves than you would have done for a print.
Hope you bought the framed print....a deffo bargain at $45K......yeah right !!!! Wink

Lol Janet, whilst we were there someone was looking to buy an original - not that one. Strange re the contrast I've uploaded the same image elsewhere and it looks fine, and the print certainly doesn't lack contrast
