Wuthering Heights

By Nick_w
When at the Ingleton falls a couple of weeks ago, I noticed this tree high above, quite an exhausing climb, and one twisted ankle later I managed to capture this.

The light really wasn't quite as I'd hoped so, I thought why not convert to mono ...for a change Wink

On a different note I've been having problems with the sharpness of the 10-20 ever since I had my "replacement" I was just going to get it re-calibrated by Sigma when I stumbled on the lens calibration feature on the D300.. It needed a -13 (from a scale of -20 to +20) confirming what I had thought for some time some serious back focusing.

Anyway let me know what you think.

A good subject for b+w Nick . A well togged tree and you have emphasised the wildness really well , a gritty image.

Re: calibration...thanks for the info...my 2 Signas are at Sigma at the moment and have been suffering from back focusing...so that will be useful to know when I get the diagnosis.

like it Nick, shots like this always make great monos so i think you made the right choice. Interested to read the issues about the calibration and the Sigma. I have the same setup and have oft thought my shots looked a little soft. Will have a look at this later, is there any particular way of setting up and taking test shots to try this out ?

Looks great in mono Nick and the dark upper corners add some mood to the sky and compliment the shape of the tree. I think the image could be taken even further by the addition of someone leaning back against the tree's trunk, either reading something or gazing towards the horizon...?
