Award Shortlist

Forlorn

By Nick_w
A big thanks to the comments and User awards on my last image. Its been a while since I last really had my mojo, but recently it has returned with vengeance (about time too), so much so I keep waking with new ideas, many of which I hope to work on in the next couple of months.

Tonights image has had by far and away the best response i've ever had on social media - with messages from all over the world, including from support societies for drink, drug and mental health issues, asking to use the image.

I haven't ticked adult content, however if the mods feel the subject matter warrants it then I have no problem editing the settings accordingly.

The words below are courtesy of Pip Atkins the wonderful model in the image. It goes without saying i will be working with Pip again.

"I don't fear death so much as I fear its prologues: loneliness, decrepitude, pain, debilitation, depression, senility. After a few years of those, I imagine death presents like a holiday at the beach."

The most imaginative and moving thing I've seen for some time. Not at all surprised others have recognised its impact.

I've taken on the role of Guest Editor for the week and that means I get to give the Guest Editor award. There are no rules, so I have made up my own. I will give 5 awards each day. Those with watermarks are excluded (I am sorry but they detract from the image). I will look outside my normal genre and consider originality, composition, technical skill etc. That doesn't mean it needs to be perfect in every aspect, it has to speak to me. I am looking at every image posted, not simply relying on the thumbnail, and I shortlist those possible for a final review at the end of the day. And I will comment on all the shortlisted ones, not just those that I give an award to.
This is an amazing image. Beautifully simple. Beautiful sad. Thoughtful. Invoking contemplation. I think you have your mojo. In fact I am giving this a personal user award as well as the guest editor award!

Thanks for the great comments and awards. It means an awe full lot, and Merlin thanks for both the GEA and UA together with your kind words.

I know this type of image isn't everyone's cup of tea, some will see it as "daft", hey ho. It would be a sad world if we all had the same tastes and likes.

What means the world to me is when I get contacted by a drug and drink rehabilitation councillor asking permission to use the image in his counciling sessions as a graphical representation how it feels when you are in the grips of addiction.

If it"speaks" to just one person and helps in their fight to get their life back in order then I will be contented.

Although I must say when I created the image addiction wasn't in my conscious thoughts, the malaise caused by depression was at the forefront.

Once again thank you.

Once again Nick, this is absolutely, stunningly brilliant. I would saw off my own foot and eat it raw to have, just once, the imagination and skill you have to produce an image like this. The concept and its execution are to me faultless.

The sentiment ..."I don't fear death so much as I fear its prologues: loneliness, decrepitude, pain, debilitation, depression, senility. After a few years of those, I imagine death presents like a holiday at the beach."...as I rapidly approach the 'wrinkly' stage of my existence this rings very true, words I will remember! Smile

To be approached for its use to help others must be an amazing feeling. I still remember well your image of your daughter bravely making her stand.

Sadly no award to give, but if this doesn't get shedloads of them then I shall saw off the other foot!Smile

I hope it wasn't a painful wait, like this suggests to me. Brilliant. Your imagination is astounding. Glad I seen this as I've been away.
