The views from the TOTR are the best, I went at sundown which was stunning but very busy and plenty of Mini Tripods on view.

Grand Central Station as has been said is great, also suprisingly good for food, it has a huge food hall on the lower level, we had a great Mexican there.

As for using a Tripod, I'd heard the Police don't like them, I used one outside Grand Central with no problems, as long as you don't obstruct people ( it really is a busy place ) you shouldn't have a problem.

Brooklyn Bridge is another iconic view, although it's a long walk to the other side.

I hope you enjoy it, I certainly did..

I took a Compact Flash card into Boots with 100 jpeg files to print, the machine only read 58 files on the card, it seems random as I can see no obvious difference with the files at the moment..have since tried the missing 42 jpegs on an SD card, a memory stick and CD, the machines see nothing!. Although some were Raw files all of them were put through and 'saved as' in Photoshop..has anyone had simular or any ideas?..Camera is 5d Mk2.

Brethren by Robyn Young..I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but the artwork on the cover is superb. ( check it on Amazon )

Thanks again everyone, Just like to say that over the 4 days the bag was only away from my side for the 5 mins I left it with my wife..and I honestly don't blame her at all, she was very distressed and told the police we wouldn't come to Rome again!..but we will, I have to get some more photos, all I have are a few taken on the small digi camera...

Jo, the station was Stazione Termini in Rome, will post the serial numbers soon

  • Commented on 'Camera gear stolen!!'

I've just returned from four great days in Rome with my wife. Unfortunately at the train station my camera kit was stolen worth 4000!..I left my wife for about 5 mins with the bags, someone asked her for directions and I guess his accomplice took the camera bag while she was distracted..and now I've calmed down no-one was hurt and the kits insured..but it spoiled a great few days not to say over 300 photos which I'm sure had an EC among them!!..so this is really a warning to everyone, you really have to have your wits about you in these places..by the way I carry my kit in a backpack not an obvious camera bag.

My stupid mistake was to spend a couple hours taking photos with no card in the camera, not once but twice!!..the problem is that you get a preview image on screen as soon as you've taken a shot...I know, no excuse!..my wife thought it was funny the first time but dumb the second, she always asks me now if I have a card inserted..

I've been using the Sigma 12-24 for about a six weeks now and its probably my most used lens. Ever since buying my Canon D60 I've missed being able to shoot really wide, my 20mm Canon lens now an average 32mm!!..As far as being slower, thats not a problem for me, if its a landscape stick it on the tripod, the onboard flash is a problem with a big shadow..I don't know what type of subjects you cover Al but I'm pleased with it. Check my profile to see some of my pics taken with it.

    Regards
