thanks all! i was pleased she looked up. she's hard to photograph, she moves like a rocket and i don't use an slr. i was a little disappointed that she wasn't smiling her radiant smile, but then i thought the story might carry the picture.

she's my goddaughter. she has two brothers. you'll likely see more of them.

Impish and quite an eye catcher. This is one of those images you could crop several ways to improve (I feel).

Consider cropping at the base a little to remove the bright light then crop the left hand side to make a square image. The focal point will then be in the centre and not every image benefits from this technique but this one would. Its good as it is but the square format could give it even more impact.

i'll try it. do you mean crop out the light on the left as well? i wouldn't want it to look too symmetrical.

Really intriguing and voyeuristic. Great. I think cropping it too much, in any direction, would lose the sense of 'lurking'. Completely agree about avoiding symmetry! Mark

This is really something a bit different. I love how we're peering through the lights and looking at her looking at the tree. Great idea, very nicely done- the whole image feels really Christmasy.

Missed this first time around - I like it, almost doll like

That red is emmmm yum.
Strong photo.

I find the doll like look of the girl a bit scary.
Strange in a way i like. The Red and black together make a great mood.

Then again i would see it like that as i like the darker side or art.
Fab!

never thought if it that way, it's true that the eyes are pretty dark, nothing cute about it, that's for sure. thanks for the insight, ethan.
