"mackerel sky" or "mackerel scales" is a common term for clouds made up of rows of cirrocumulus or altocumulus clouds displaying rippling pattern similar in appearance to fish scales; often a harbinger of wet or stormy weather to come?

The shore patterns are almost as good as the cloud patterns.

Very nice colour tones and as Pamela says the rippled sands and matching rippled clouds work really well.

. . . many thanks folks . . . .Graham, Pamela the foreground is rippled water, it's the "Fleet Lagoon" behind the Chesil bank in Dorset, I have often waded into the shallow water here, regrettably, as I walked back to my car the whole sky turned a wonderful crimson red, right place - wrong time? Smile
