Fiery patterns

By oldgreyheron
What to do with sky and fireworks - I don't really know so I thought I'd pop this up here and see what feedback I get (please!)

This is back at the mima opening, but this time taken with my compact set to "fireworks" mode. Handheld with one hand above my head, the camera gave a 1.6s exposure at f5.6. It then processed like mad before saving the picture - I should have had horrible camera shake but it's not apparent - I wonder if there is clever image stabilsation at work?

I've risked it large - do look in if you have time, and please tell me what you think or would suggest!

Thank you for your time!
Mike

The timing is good, great colours - a first class fireworks display!

considering you had one hand above your head, this is well composed as I find my eye being drawn across the diagonal bottom left to top right. Looks slightly soft but none the less a good firework capture.

I like this image very much; good colour and composure.

You jest! Looks like you had this all planned! One wouldn't say this was a "hand over the head" shot. Really great shot!

Mands, I jest not, I guess you get lucky once in a while; and Terry, I was of course very composed (I think not: arrived late, crowds, two cameras one of them new, no tripod, offspring around...), but I know what you mean - lol

Firework shots are so often disappointing - but not this one. It is well composed with good colours and the fireworks fill the frame nicely. An excellent photograph.

Nice to admit to a bit of old fashioned jam, still a good shot, I've spent ages running the batteries down on "B" waving a lump of cardboard in front of the lens and got worse! cheers, Tim.

This makes a nice, discrete presentation because the exposure was fairly short. If you used a 5-10" exposure you would get much longer, complete arcs, which can be overwhelming. There is camera shake here: when you move the camera with fireworks it does not blurr them (they are moving across the image field plenty fast enough,) it just offsets or twists the continuing track. You can see the kinks in some of your tracks.
