Scarlet Elf Cup

By KarenFB
Hubby and I made the most of the Spring like weather yesterday and went for a walk around the farm. Down by one of the streams is a dark, boggy area, with lots of dead, moss covered trees - to my delight we came across an area covered in this beautiful fungi (Scarlet Elf Cup).

I've only ever seen it once before (Snowdrop Valley, Somerset), so to say I was thrilled is an understatement! Grin

Each 'cup' is about one inch (2.5cm) across

V1 for me. I like your composition, the lovely outlined shapes, and the way the moss entwines around the elf cups.

They look rather velvety like those jews ears, I wonder if they are edible? I guess with them being red they are poisonous, a fine shot of these colourful specimens btw

Fabulous Karen I thought it was too cold and wet for any fungus to survive
